Mir Mosharraf Hossain is a famous Bengali writer. He is mainly popular for his book ‘Bishad Shindhu’.
He was born in 1847. His father Mir Moazzem Hossain was a zamindar and his mother was Daulatunnesa. He started his education in Kushtia and later admitted in a Kolkata school. He learned Arabic, Persian. He worked first as a reporter and later editor of different newspapers.
He was the first Bengali Muslim writer who started writing novels which became famous. His greatest work is Bishad Sindhu’ which narrates the story of Karbala and the death of Imam Hasan and Husayn. His other excellent works are Jamidar Darpan (1873) and Gazi Miar Bostani. He wrote against contemporary social injustices. He died in 1912.
